Treatment of macular degeneration

Methods

Since 2006 we have offered treatment with anti-VEGF, a substance that is injected into the vitreous body to retard the growth of blood vessels. We mainly use Lucentis.

Some patients who are not suitable for treatment with anti-VEGF or who need a combination treatment are offered PDT treatment (photodynamic therapy with Visudyne).

Diagnosis and sub-diagnosis are carried out before treatment, using fluorescence angiography and also ICG angiography if necessary.

All patients are recorded in the macula registry, which is a national quality registry for treatment of macular degeneration.

Indications

Exudative degenerations of the macula that have been verified by fluorescein angiography.
