Department of Urology

The Department of Urology at Örebro University Hospital offers comprehensive diagnostic, management and treatment options for all urological conditions and cancers, ranging from basic urological care to highly specialized treatments. The largest groups of diseases are prostate cancer, bladder cancer, penile cancer, renal tumours and lower urinary tract symptoms and urolithiasis. We have high competence in endoscopic urology, prosthesis surgery, urethral stricture surgery and kidney, bladder, and penile cancer surgery. We perform open, endoscopic and robotical surgery. The department is a national centre for penile cancer.

We have 220 employees including 14 urologists and 10 physicians in specialty training. Our in-patient ward has a capacity for 22 patients.

In 2019, we carried out approximately 1 900 surgical procedures and 10 000 out-patient visits.

Research and development is an important part of our activities. We are accredited by the European Board of Urology (EBU) for education of specialist urologists from all EU countries and are responsible for the urological education of the medical students at Örebro University School of Medical Sciences.
